We accept feature films, independent or associated with a film school. The section where the film will be added, in case of selection, will be decided by the artistic department of the festival. Only films that have a hint of humor will be accepted, regardless of their main genre. For short films, submissions will be made exclusively via FilmFreeway. In celebration of the fact that video technology has been made more widely available in the last 20 years, we bring you this: a festival of films created on cellphones! In hopes that filmmakers without a budget will submit, we won’t be charging an entry fee to participate. We accept all genres, but encourage you to edit your films and use external sound if possible. We want cheaply made films, but we still want them to be watchable, professional, and even if they’re none of those things, we mostly want them to be GREAT and FUN. Length is not important, although we will only be able to accept a small number of short-shorts or full-lengths, and are looking mostly for films between 10 – 30 minutes long. Also, there is no limit on how many cellphones you use to film.Submissions will be open all the way up to October 2nd, 2016. Cartoons Underground was founded by Barfing Squirrel Productions; Patrick Smith and Vicky Chen. The two met 5 years ago at New York University Tisch asia, school of the arts in Singapore.
As the co-founder of Scribbled Junkies Festival of Drawn Animation with Bill Plympton in New York, Patrick was inspired to re-create this raw, casual and alternative scene in Singapore. Being a marketing and animation geek, Vicky had the skills and contacts to organise the festival.
