Hi all,
Currently updating festival deadlines in between other projects. If you notice any errors, please let me know. I have caught a few that now charge a submission. I do, however list festivals that have free entry for specified groups, so check for that, just in case. I do note it in the description if it is free for students, free for those who live in a certain area, etc.

FilmFestival Cottbus 8/01/16
East European films- if the producer or one of the co-producers is based in one of the successor states of the former «socialist» European countries (including the former Soviet Union as well as ex-Yugoslavia) and if it is made in one of the languages of this region. DVD Submission.

24 fps International Short Film Festival (Texas) 8/08/16
DVD submission. deadline. Since its inception in 1999, the 24fps Short Film Festival has presented programs of short films by aspiring and established artists from around the world. The juried competition is open to any work made outside the major worldwide film studio system, and provides cash awards to the festival’s top films in six major categories.

World Film Festival Bangkok 8/15/16
The objective of the World Film Festival of Bangkok is to introduce quality, non-mainstream films from all over the world. Filminute is the international one minute film festival that showcases, awards and promotes the best one minute films from around the world. Miscon International Short Film Festival (Missoula, Montana) 04/30/16
Our mission here at the MisCon International Short Film Festival is simple: to provide a rewarding place for innovative and creative beings from all over planet Earth to display their talents in the Art of Film making. Entries may be in any style, but they must be related in some fashion to the following genres: Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Horror. Entries must be longer than 1 minute, and shorter than 30 minutes.

 

 

Upcoming festival deadlines, some really soon

Some more upcoming festival deadlines. You may have noticed that I have begun omitting whether it is online or DVD. I have instead gradually shifted to mentioning if the festival accepts DVD only. Many festivals have online submission at this point. The festivals that accept only DVD usually do so for a reason, which include archiving, filtering and storage purposes.

Kalamazoo Bicycle Film Festival (Michigan) 04/16/16
The festival is a celebration of bicycles and the culture that surrounds them. The films feature a wide spectrum of experiences, stories and images of bicycling. Some will make you laugh. Some will make you think. The common theme is that they are all for, about or inspired by bicycles.

Extremely Young Film Festival 4/28/16 late deadline
Born out of the spirit of Aurora Picture Show’s Extremely Shorts Film Festival, the Extremely Young Film Festival shines a spotlight on short films up to three minutes long from filmmakers 17 years old and under. The festival celebrates their creative and technical strengths in film and displays their interpretations of the world in which they live. These youth are the voices of future media expression. Film Festival della Lessinia (Verona) 4/30/16
The theme of the Film Festival della Lessinia is: mountains and faraway lands. Eligible for the Festival are both films and videos (features, shorts, documentaries, animated films) that represent, emphasize, and encourage the understanding of social, linguistic, human, economic, environmental, natural, historical, and artistic realities pertaining to the mountains or to other lands far from urban centres, as well as of the traditions, customs, and habits of the people who live in the mountains and in other distant lands.

STIFF (Student international film festival Rijeka) is an international film festival dedicated to student films. Launched in 2014, it aims to bring the best student productions from all over the globe to Rijeka and present it to local audience, especially fellow students.

The Department of Cinematic Arts at Columbus College of Art and Design invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Cinematic Arts starting August 2016. With an MFA, and/or equivalent professional experience who can teach digital, traditional and emerging motion picture technologies as well as industry production practices, within a broad range of related courses which could include: Producing, Directing, Cinematography & Lighting, Editing, Production Design and Storyboarding, Motion Graphics, Visual Effects, Introductory courses, Advanced Projects, Sound Design, Documentary and Experimental film, and Senior Thesis Film Development. Interested candidates should provide a CV, statement of teaching philosophy and interests, statement of professional experience and plans, and a link to a digital portfolio of the applicants work and students’ work. Miscellaneous updates

Minute Festival (Brazil) ongoing
new deadlines opening continuously. One Minute Festival was created in 1991 and has inspired the breeding of over 50 “one minute festivals” all around the world. Since 2007, the Festival has become permanent and online. The Festival lanches themes and monthly rewards the best works. All the vídeos are evaluated by a team of curators. The trusteeship’s grade is expressed through the number of little clocks and the public`s grade is shown by the number of stars. One Minute Festival also could be called Ideas’s Festival, once idea is the most relevant criterion used in the vídeos evaluation.

International Short Film Festival of Bueu (Spain) 4/15/16
All kind of short films can participate in the festival, irrespective of genres (except documentaries). Works will not be more than 30 minutes long. Those short films whose language is different of Spanish or Galicien must be subtitled in one of them or in English.Participants can present the number of works that they want. Monterrey International Film Festival (Mexico) 5/14/16

LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival 5/1/16
This festival starts with the intention of overshooting the simple exposure. Although it is important to raise public awareness on the risks connected to the exploitation and to the use of natural resource in the production of fossil fuels, still remains, the enormous and dramatic problem of the disasters caused by the lack of energy, with particular reference to the water supply, highly relevant to the world population. The main objective of the festival will be, therefore, not only emphasizing problems related to the use of fossil fuels, but especially identifying the alternatives which take into account, according to the present scientific knowledge, the several well-known methods of production. NBCUniversal Short Film Festival 5/15/16
The producer, writer, and director must be over 18 years of age and a legal resident of the US, able and ready for employment. The writer, director, cast, or theme of the short must be diverse, either: ethnically, culturally, or of a diverse voice or community. Examples of diverse and inclusive backgrounds include: female writers & directors, the LGBTQ community, and performers with disabilities. Short films must qualify under one of the following narrative genres: Comedy, Drama, Horror, or Sci-Fi. Any Docs, Animations or Music Videos are not eligible. Shorts must be 2-20 minutes in length. International Kansk Video Festival 5/15/16
International Kansk Video Festival (Russia/Siberia) is not a conventional film festival. It is an experiment in time and space. The small Siberian city of Kansk, was found on the Internet by chance and selected as its name correlates with the Cannes Film Festival, Kansk in the Russian language is pronounced the same as Cannes. The Kansk Video festival has grown immeasurably from it’s 2002 beginnings, each year it hosts an international jury from the industry and artistic communities, running international film and video-art competitions with a special screenings program and a bank of ideas for a further 150 years of the festivals future. The festival promotes new names of independent and uncompromising video and filmmakers, new genres, new cinema trends. online submission.

Asinabka Festival 5/16/16
Asinabka Festival will take place in Ottawa, Ontario.  The Festival is currently seeking works from independent filmmakers, any film or video that tells First Nations, Métis, or Inuit stories, or focuses on international Indigenous issues, is eligible.  Submissions can be in any genre (documentary, drama, animation, experimental etc.) or any length, and must be finished works.  Preference will be given to new works produced within the last two years. Concorto Film Festival (Italy) 05/25/16
Concorto Film Festival is an exhibition intended for lovers of cinema, both audience and professionals. The purpose is to promote and circulate short films and to and to generate contacts among audience, young directors and professionals.

Student Academy awards 06/01/16
The Student Academy Awards is a film competition conducted by the Academy and the Academy Foundation. Four categories: Animation, Documentary, Narrative and Alternative. Maximum running time is 40 minutes, Electronic submission.

Short Riga (Latvia) 6/1/16
Short Riga thinks that a short film is the natural habitat for the contemporary avant-garde in cinema. It is a format through which the filmmaker explores and experiments. When selecting films for the competition we want to see the filmmaker’s search for fresh stories and images, see them questioning the contemporary trends of cinema or the concept of cinema itself. The Eko International Film Festival 6/30/16
Eko International Film Festival (EKOIFF) is accepting entries to the 6th EKOIFF edition. International Film Festival Tofifest (Poland) 8/15/16

Truly, CA ongoing
KQED in San Francisco‘s documentary series that is centered on subjects that are in or about California. The series is open to anybody to submit as long as their subject material relates to California. We accept both feature length and short documentaries. DVD submission. *deadline for season 12 passed in January, but they accept submissions on a rolling basis.
