March, April and May 2014 updates

I have been updating the listings and sorting through. As I update, I could miss if a festival now charges a small fee. If you notice a fee, it was an oversight, so please let me know. On the other hand, I do post festivals that have free submissions for early deadlines, and later charge a submission fee. This should be noted on the post.

Alpinale Short Film Festival (Austria) 03/15/14
The ALPINALE represents a venue for both professional and amateur filmmakers from home and abroad, who are given the opportunity to conduct multi-cultural and open dialogue with creative people, and to present their work to an interested audience. DVD submission.

Flyway Film Festival: 03/31/14 (Wisconsin) note: this is the deadline for free submissions
The Flyway Film Festival is on the beautiful shores of Lake Pepin in southwestern Wisconsin. Each year our festival features over 50 films, dozens of visiting filmmakers, panel discussions and workshops, and a Thursday night Kickoff Gala with food, filmmakers and live music. All this takes place in an intimate and interactive environment along the banks of the Mississippi River.

Miscon International Short Film Festival (Missoula, Montana) 04/01/14
Our mission here at the MisCon International Short Film Festival is simple: to provide a rewarding place for innovative and creative beings from all over planet Earth to display their talents in the Art of Film making. Entries may be in any style, but they must be related in some fashion to the following genres: Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Horror. Entries must be longer than 1 minute, and shorter than 30 minutes. Supertoon International Animation Festival (Croatia) 04/04/14
Supertoon International Animation Festival is a specialized international competition festival for short animated films which will be held in Šibenik, Croatia, from 28st July to 2nd August 2013. Three competition categories: Short Animated Films-Short-format, non-commissioned animated films or videos. Films for Children and Youth- Animated works produced and distributed specifically for children and youth audiences. When a serial is the case, only one episode is eligible. Animated Music Videos-Official music videos, commissioned animated videos made specifically to promote music pieces.

Multimatograf (Russia) 04/04/14

Astra Film Festival (Romania) 04/15/14

The FEMINA – INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S FILM FESTIVAL (Brazil) 4/19/14
is a competitive festival for works directed by women. It is the first event of its kind in Brazil and Latin America. Besides showing the work of Brazilian women filmmakers, broadening its visibility and opening space for the Brazilian feminine cinema abroad, it brings to Brazil the foreign production, as well as international guests. Digital Graffiti (Alys Beach, Florida) 4/21/14
Submit innovative and visually compelling examples of: generative art, experimental short films, animation, sound, motion and/or light responsive installations for projection onto the town walls of Alys Beach. Alys Beach is considered one of the world’s most progressive towns in environmental sustainability standards; special consideration is given to work that address connections to architecture and environment. WomenMakeWaves Film Festival (Taiwan) 4/26/14
Women Make Waves Film Festival aims to celebrate the achievements of outstanding female talents, to explore different aspects of women’s lives as well as to promote equality and rights of all genders. By covering a wide range of genres, issues, and representations of women, the Festival seeks to present and honor women’s survival wisdom and power as they are turned into films and gain mainstream recognition. Deadline for International Competition. Fiction and animation short-films; Fiction and animation feature films; Documentaries; Experimental videos; More than a decade bringing together in the summer of Avanca some of the most significant films and authors of the audiovisuals and international cinema production. DVD by mail, other required material should be sent by CD, email or wetransfer.

Film Festival della Lessinia (Verona) 4/30/14
The theme of the Film Festival della Lessinia is: mountains and faraway lands. Eligible for the Festival are both films and videos (features, shorts, documentaries, animated films) that represent, emphasize, and encourage the understanding of social, linguistic, human, economic, environmental, natural, historical, and artistic realities pertaining to the mountains or to other lands far from urban centres, as well as of the traditions, customs, and habits of the people who live in the mountains and in other distant lands. Submit work by DVD or link.

Stonybrook Film Festival 05/01/2014

Figari Film Festival (Italy) 5/04/14
International Short Film Festival. The FFF tends to seek, discover and promote new authors of contemporary and both Italian and international independent cinema. The Festival aims to be a showcase for those who are already well-known in the film industry as well as a great launching pad for emerging directors, screenwriters, actors and actresses.
