The Japan Media Arts Festival 9/2/14
A comprehensive festival of Media Arts (Media Geijutsu) that honors outstanding works from a diverse range of media – from animation and comics to media art and games. The festival gives awards in each of its four divisions: Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga. Since its inception in 1997, the festival has recognized significant works of high artistry and creativity, and in addition to a yearly Exhibition of Award-winning Works has held other events, such as symposiums, screenings, and showcases. Entries are sought from professional, amateur, independent and commercial creators across the globe.
On 17 October 2014 the world’s very first competition for film & video shot vertically (also called ‘tall-screen’, ‘portrait format’ or ‘9:16 aspect ratio’) will be held in Katoomba, in Australia’s stunning Blue Mountains. The 1st Vertical Film Festival will be projecting a mix of curated tall-screen film & video from around the world, TALL SHORTS, plus finalists in our competition for vertical video — the world’s first — called ⇧ THIS WAY UP ⇧. To that end we’re calling for filmmakers to be a part of cinema history and submit their work. The conditions are that it has to be: • Filmed vertically in High Definition • Max 3 minutes. All genres and subject matter, tall tales and true!
